Forse la Terra si salverà dalla morte del sole, scoperta KU Leuven

Morte del sole, lo scenario apocalittico vacilla. Dai calcoli la marea sarebbe più gentile, e il vento stellare più generoso: la Terra ha una via d'uscita.

Gianluca Riccio

A breathtaking deep space scene showing Earth as a small, frozen, dark planet orbiting a dim white dwarf star — the remnant of a dead sun. The scene is set billions of years in the future: Earth's surface is a barren, icy, grey-brown wasteland with no oceans or atmosphere, gently illuminated by the cold pale glow of the white dwarf. Around the white dwarf, faint wisps of a planetary nebula linger like ghostly veils of gas. The background is a vast, star-filled cosmos, deep indigo and black. A large red giant star looms partially in the frame, representing the sun's earlier dying phase, its massive orange-red surface turbulent with stellar winds. The composition contrasts the enormous dying star with the tiny, silent, surviving Earth in the distance. Cinematic, scientifically inspired, photorealistic space art with dramatic lighting and a melancholic yet awe-inspiring atmosphere.
